Colombia Flor del Huila Rainforest Alliance is the product of 20 growers from the villages of Alto Fatima, Bajo la Cabana and La Esperanza in Huila, Colombia. This region is well known for its bright and balanced coffees and so is competitively sought after.
To gain a competitive edge, six growers met in 2013 to discuss planting new varietals. Their plan was a success and today that group is 20 producers strong. Further, the group has partnered with InConexus — a private organization that helps producers to find sustainable, new market opportunities, particularly with social and environmental benefits. This relationship has also helped enhance production, proliferate good farming practices and improve cup quality. In 2017, the group was thrilled to secure Rainforest Alliance (RFA) certification.
Further, InConexus has helped the producers to develop new infrastructure to support coffee processing and encouraged women coffee growers and the next generation of farmers. By explicitly addressing the needs of women and young people, the group hopes to strengthen and maintain the region’s coffee legacy.
Colombia Flor del Huila Rainforest Alliance is grown using shade practices at 1,600-1,900 masl in loamy, clay soil mixed with volcanic ash. The coffee is fermented in tanks for 32 hours; after it’s washed, it’s dried for 15 to 25 days in the sun on air-flow canopies.
Cupping notes: Bright acidity, high sweetness. Berries, citrus, chocolate, floral.
