Guatemala Manos de Mujer Santa Rosa is the work of 20 women cultivating coffee in Santa Rosa. Catuai, Bourbon and Marsellesa varieties are grown between 1,400 and 1,750 meters above sea level in the volcanic landscapes of southeastern Guatemala.
Guatemala Manos de Mujer Santa Rosa is cultivated using regenerative agriculture practices designed to improve soil health and long-term farm resilience. Producers actively renovate their farms through the introduction of rust-resistant coffee varieties, supporting plant health and stable yields in the face of climate and disease pressures. Practices such as worm composting systems play a central role in their organic soil management approach, transforming farm byproducts into nutrient-rich fertilizer that enhances soil biodiversity, structure and water retention. These combined practices support sustainable coffee cultivation while preserving the environmental integrity of Santa Rosa’s producing landscape.
Guatemala Manos de Mujer Santa Rosa highlights producer visibility within the region, specifically the work of women producers shaping sustainable coffee production at origin.
Farmer Aid and UNEX
Guatemala Manos de Mujer Santa Rosa is exported through UNEX Guatemala, a long-established coffee exporter and supply-chain partner. UNEX sources cherry from small-holder producers, processes the cherry in regional wet mills with the help of strategic partnerships. Finally, UNEX transports parchment to their dry-mill facilities and exports the final product. This sourcing model, when paired with its Farmer Aid Initiative, allows UNEX to directly support small farmers at the root of the coffee supply chain.
UNEX’s Farmer Aid Initiative operates across Guatemala’s coffee regions, including Santa Rosa. Farmer Aid strengthens sustainable coffee sourcing through programs focused on health, education, environmental stewardship and climate resilience.
Participating producers benefit from annual medical brigades that expand healthcare access in rural coffee communities, alongside harvest-season childcare and education centers that support families during peak production periods. These programs improve producer wellbeing while enabling greater participation and economic stability for women coffee farmers.
Farmer Aid also delivers technical training, farm renovation assistance and promotes climate-adaptive agricultural practices that support long-term productivity and coffee quality. By integrating social investment with agronomic expertise, UNEX helps build resilient coffee communities and consistent supply chains — reinforcing transparency, sustainability and long-term sourcing relationships.
