The 124 women members of APROCCURMA (Asociacion de Productores Cafetaleros de la Cuenca del Rio Marañon) are to thank for this bright and lively certified Fairtrade Organic coffee.

APROCCURMA was formed in 2012 with the goal of improving local producers’ quality of life, and these 124 women represent 30 percent of its membership. Every effort related to this coffee, from maintenance to harvest and processing, was performed by women.

On family-owned farms in the province of Rodrigues de Mendoza, in Peru’s Amazonia region, each producer cultivates an average of 2.5 hectares, intercropped with a variety of crops. The women in the association own their own land and farm according to certified Fair Trade and Organic practices. They assert that being certified and part of the association has improved their incomes and the environmental and ecological quality of their lands.

APROCCURMA offers technical assistance to its producers in the cultivation, marketing and quality of their coffees.

After harvest, cherries were pulped and the beans were fermented for approximately 14 hours. They were then washed with fresh spring water and dried on raised beds—built by the producers—and in solar tents for between three and four days.

Cupping notes: Tangerine, green apple, caramel; lively acidity, round body. (7/3/18)
