Hawaiian coffee is one of the world’s most sought after coffees.  It is cultivated on the slopes of dormant volcano Hualālai and active volcano Mauna Loa in the North and South Kona districts of the Big Island of Hawaii. This unique location presents ideal coffee growing conditions of perfect altitude, rich and volcanic soil, and constant Hawaiian sunshine. The environment additionally provides steady yet gentle rainfall and natural win protection for the coffee plants by the surrounding volcanoes.

Our coffee comes from Greenwell Farms. They grow their coffee on 250 acres in the middle of the Kona District where they also operate their own pulping, drying, and milling facilities to assure the highest standards of quality control possible throughout the entire coffee processing line.

This particular type, Kona Select (formerly known as No. 1),  has the minimum screen size of 16 and allows up to 18 imperfections in a 300 gram sample.  The change in the coffee name is a result of the Broca Beetle infestation, which have made traditional USDA grading standards very difficult to achieve.  Greenwell Farms is working diligently towards getting back to the original grading standards.
