Chocolate lovers, unite! The InterAmerican Providence office will host the fourth and final installment of its Summer Sensory Series Friday, September 14, focusing on an age-old favorite combination: chocolate and coffee.
Our team will be joined by Dr. Carla Martin, founder and executive director of the Fine Cacao and Chocolate Institute.
Dr. Martin is a social anthropologist and Harvard lecturer who is dedicated to conducting research and educating people on the origin, processing, production, quality and ethics of the cacao-chocolate supply chain.
She’ll be educating us on the basics of the chocolate industry and the history of fine cacao grading, as well as guiding us through a chocolate tasting. We’ll learn about the differing qualities of chocolate and explore the effects of terroir and processing from a variety of cacao-producing regions.
Then, to complement Dr. Martin’s discussion, InterAmerican Quality Coordinator Amanda Armbrust-Asselin will offer parallel examples from the specialty coffee industry, along with a tasting of coffees representing various quality and regional profiles.
Everyone’s welcome to this free event in our Providence office, at 3 Steeple St. from 5–7 p.m. Please email us at team.providence@nkg.coffee to rsvp and let us know how many friends you’ll be bringing with you! •

The three previous installments in this series focused on florals in coffee, natural wines vs. natural coffees and the biases that impact our sensory perceptions.
