We’re pleased to share that there’s more good news for anyone sourcing coffee from Brazil. On Nov. 20, the Trump administration announced in an Executive Order that it had removed its 40% “free speech” tariff on Brazilian coffee. This follows the Nov. 14 removal of its 10% “reciprocal tariff.”
In short, coffee from Brazil — like coffee from many other producing countries — now carries zero tariffs if it entered U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) on or after 12:01 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 13.
There remains a possibility that coffee from Nicaragua could face tariffs next year as part of a separate investigation into unfair trade practices. We will continue to monitor this situation and keep you updated.
Mind the FIFO
Our team will continue to release spot inventory on a first-in, first-out (FIFO) basis to move previously tariffed lots as quickly as possible. Fortunately, we’ve kept a slim inventory and expect to work through these lots soon.
We’ll continue to process spot and forward orders as before, adding any applicable tariffs for landed, already-tariffed inventory as a line item on sales invoices.
As ever, we appreciate your partnership, your trust and your business. •
